WHY
The Summer Trail Run Series (STRS) was created in the summer of 2004 by
the Albany Running Exchange as an opportunity for the
local community to come together for weekly, non-competitive trail runs.
These are group runs with no clock, no awards... and no fee! It is a chance
to take advantage of the beautiful summer weather here in Albany, and
to see all there is to see closer to home than you may think.
WHEN & WHERE
The runs are held every Thursday at 6:30pm, each week alternating venue
and course. Check the schedule above for each week's location.
WHO
Runners of all age and abilities and encouraged to attend. Walkers are
welcome too. Please note that dogs are not permitted to participate in
the running component but are otherwise welcome per park rules. Jogging
strollers are not recommended due to trail conditions but some of the
parks have terrain suitable for their use.
WHAT
Each week, the ARE marks a 2m to 4m loop. Participants complete as many
loops as they like. Generally at about 7:15pm (45 minutes), volunteers
go out and pick up the flags marking the course. Participants are asked
to sign-in upon arrival and sign-out when done running. Water is provided
each week, with BBQ/pot-luck dinners held every few weeks.
*Please be advised that ticks may
be found on the trails, so using repellent and wearing thin pants are
certainly good measures to take.*
